Hans-Martin Liebing is an award-winning independent film and television producer, screenwriter, and director. As a producer, Hans has more than two dozen domestic and international film and television projects in various stages of development, production, and post-production. Recent work includes projects with Pen Award-winning writer Bill Minutaglio; Emmy Award-winning director Nancy Schiesari, Golden Palm winning director Mitko Panov, Academy Award nominated and Golden Lion winning director Milcho Manchevski, and acclaimed New Zealand director Emily McDowell.
Hans has been developing TV series, feature films and cinematic VR projects in collaboration with U.S., European and Chinese production companies. Narrative and documentary films he has worked on have screened theatrically, on PBS Independent Lens, PBS Territory, ABC Australia and Televisa, and have won numerous awards at film festivals around the world.
In addition to writing, producing, and occasionally directing film and television productions, Hans has juried several prestigious festivals and awards including the News and Documentary Emmys, the South East European Film Festival, Cine Las Americas, and the Newport Beach Film Festival. He is also the co-founder of the South East European Film Festival’s international project acceleratorSEEPro, has served as a consultant to VR companies 8i and Realtra, and as an honorary adviser to Hanhai Studio’s U.S.-Chinese creative production and technology incubator.
Hans holds MA and PhD degrees in Film Production, Media Studies, and International Communication from the University of Texas at Austin and an MFA from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television, where he currently teaches courses in Film and Television Development; Marketing, Distribution and Exhibition; and acts as an academic supervisor for the school’s graduate internship program.
